How the deposit works

In Austria, many drinks in single-use plastic bottles and metal cans carry a deposit. You can recognise them by the deposit logo on the label.

  1. 01
    Pay the deposit

    When you buy a drink with the deposit logo, you pay the deposit along with it.

    Bring it back empty

    Return the bottle or can at a return point – for example, a reverse vending machine in a supermarket.

    Get your deposit back

    For every bottle and can that’s accepted, you get your deposit back. The packaging then goes for recycling.
